I just purchased two new fuel filters and they came with spike fits for the end and hose-clamps not the whole assembly.

Rainman, I just did what you are looking to do and I’m NOT completely satisfied with the result. With that said, it is working. To answer your question, the stock filter doesn’t just come out of the hose, it’s glued to the hose and would not pull out for me, thus I had to cut a small slit up the side of the hose and peel it away from the spike.

Fyi, I recommend you splurge for a new gasket and screws. I looked at my gasket and it looked and felt new, so I didn’t replace, I also put thread block on the old screws and tightened as per the manual sequence and torque specs.
